Miya Ando, Kumo (Cloud) 49.6, 2016, 49 x 49 Inches, Ink on Stainless Alucore
“I’m very honored to have a piece from the ‘Kumo’ (Cloud) series acquired by the LACMA contemporary collection and excited to share my work with future generations,” says Ando, who was born in Los Angeles. The artist sees her influences as a blend of the coastal redwood forests of Santa Cruz, where she grew up, and her experiences living in a Buddhist temple in Japan. She reflects that she is “half inspired by Japan and half inspired by the Santa Cruz mountains, nature, and forest.”
